In Creatures, the Computer taught Norns how to speak the Handish language (as opposed to bibble) - only verbs, though:
The leftmost button allows the word to be spoken again by the computer, reinforcing the concept for any Norns. The rewind button allows the player to go back one word, and the fast forward button allows a player to go forward one word. The button shaped like a carriage return (↵) allows the player to type in their own word for the concept. It is possible to delete a word entirely using the carriage return button, leaving the word's space blank.
Did you know? Early versions of Creatures featured a blackboard for teaching words.
In Creatures 2, there were two learning computers. The one in the incubator room taught the norns simple verbs, such as 'push', 'eat', and 'rest'. The second one, on the level below, taught norns more abstract concepts, such as feelings: 'cold', 'pain', 'hungry', etc. Some creatures, however, would fail to learn the meanings of words, just the word itself, and would not perform any actions when told the verb. The Laptop could also be used to teach norns a variety of essential words. Helen made a portable Easy Talk Computer for Creatures 2.
Creatures 3 had the Learning Room.
Ali made a Computer COB (a toy) for Creatures 1. Inspired by Creatures 2, Doringo made a Drive Computer COB for Creatures 1 which teaches concepts.
