Albia 2000

History

Albia 2000 was originally designed simply to be a web site that would keep tabs on the progress of Creatures 2 whilst it was in development. That was all...

It launched in Febuary of 1998, consisting of just a couple of pages showing screenshots and information.

Within the next month or so, Ali found himself creating objects for Creatures 1, and so Albia 2000 was properly launched on May 10th, 1998, including many of the features that A2k became most known for - new and original COBs, "Who's who at agc", "The Toby Simpson Shrine", "Create your own story", the Essex Norns, the interviews and more.

By August of that year, A2k had revamped slightly in order to bring in a look which was more fun, and new features came as well.

By the end of the year, Albia 2000 had been listed in the official Creatures 2 strategy guide (one of just a small choice handful) and had moved to a new address over at albia2000.demon.co.uk (we were previosuly hosted on AOL). A2k stayed with demon for just a couple of months, owing to the fact that the site was popular and bandwidth was being used too quickly. Whilst at Demon, A2k went with a more subtle logo and design... It was very blue! And.... erm.... quite boring! At this point, with C2 out, A2k had created many amazing downloads, and had grown in popularity, though the design was the worst of the lot! Albia 2000 was being updated every Saturday back then!

A2k jumped ship and moved to Force 9 in early 1999, where it stayed for a while. The site became green for the first time. The site was also, at this point, updated at least twice a week, on a Wednesday and Saturday, always with new original content, such as downloads, features, or interviews.

A2k changed slightly for the Summer of 1999, mainly introducing a better navigational bar.

In September/October 1999, the biggest shake up happened, with a major redesign, and a move to A2k's own domain name at www.albia2000.co.uk where it has stayed since, adding albia2000.com later. New features included regular updates from a web cam, community news and, most importantly, the designing of several major downloads including Montu and Spriglys....erm.... the Tree project!

A revamp happened in early 2000 which featured the whole site being designed in Flash, with a really odd swirly new logo to go with it.

Montu and Spriglysium Nebula (tree) would be released that year (in August 2000) which included a major revamp of Albia 2000 back to blue; but it did look cool, and a theme more geared towards Creatures 3 with space Norns decorating the main page and logo!

The site closed briefly for a couple of months at the end of the year, but sprung back to life in early 2001 with a revamp to a space-themed C3/DS design, and regular news posted by several people.

A redesign happened again ready for the release of Creatures Adventures, Creatures Playground and Docking Station, and brought back the fun, light colours, and began creating lots of downloads for Docking Station.

In May of 2003, A2k redesigned to a funky green style and brought in many new features, and brought back some older ones. Over the next year, A2k saw a move to a PHP content system and saw the popular release of Ostrova and the Yeren Grendels in the new third-party mall, the Chaos Store, as well as the release of many cool free add-ons such as the Ecology Kit!

The site's design has changed a couple of times since and is now a cool toxic green...
