The Room Editor is an official development tool for Creatures 2 which allows the developer to create new areas that creatures can explore. Includes the ability to edit cellular automata and room boundaries. It was once available for purchase through the CDN, but is now available for free, when the officially-supplied registration key is entered.
Overview[edit]
Colors[edit]
- Black lines indicate room boundaries.
- Blue lines indicate floors.
- Other lines are indicators for doors. Red is fully closed, green is fully open, and yellow is halfway.
Properties[edit]
- Neighbors are numeric representations of the door lines. These are in the form:
{connecting room ID, openness value}
- Surface points are indicated by {x, y} coordinates relative to the room (not the world). e.g.
{0, 0}
is the bottom left of the room and{[width], [height]}
is the top right of the room. - "Floor value" indicates the openness value for the floor. (e.g. 0 is fully closed, 255 is fully open)
Quirks / Bugs[edit]
- Sometimes the visual representation lags a step behind the action. So if you click on a room, it will still appear as if another room is selected, but the properties have updated correctly. One workaround is to click a room so that the cursor changes and then click and hold until the room is selected.
- Similarly, updating the surface points isn't reflected visually until you click the room again.
