Gene Splicing Machine
The Gene Splicing Machine was described as 'the primary way to find new species' of norn in Creatures Online. It allowed the player to select two norns. The Machine then took a seemingly random selection of genes, half from the mother, and half from the father, and allowed the player to preview the norn's appearance. The player could have selectively swapped in genes from the mother or father, and the appearance of the hypothetical norn changed accordingly.
Splicing was intended to cost bioenergy, and take a certain amount of time. The player could have spliced in genes from other norn breeds, but this would cause the splicing to take longer. Genetic samples from different norn breeds were intended to be unlocked with the levelling system. When the egg was spliced, it was to appear in the Hatchery Machine.
