Edibles

From Creatures Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

There are certain classifiers in the Creatures games that creatures are expected to be able to eat, which is different for each game.

Listed below are the categories expected to be edible, with their genus number. Bold denotes typical requirements for survival. Note that the vanilla scripts for each game are not necessarily consistent within genera (e.g. only two bugs in C2 are edible without the Eat Meat patch).

Creatures[edit]

(Note that the verb "eat" doesn't exist in the first Creatures game, so most of these are based on if the genus usually gives starch and hunger decrease)

  • 4-Herbs - Official examples give starch but typically do not decrease hunger.
  • 6-Food - Official examples always give starch and decrease hunger.
  • 7-Drink - Official examples don't give starch but have both effects on hunger (decreasing it for the coffee and increasing it for the hootch).
  • 8-Vendor - The official Island Carrot Vendor directly injects hunger decrease and starch when it is pushed, therefore it can be argued it is edible.
  • 15-Weeds - Give starch and a negative effect, but official examples do not decrease hunger.

Creatures 2[edit]

Creatures 3/Docking Station[edit]

Empathic Vendor edibles: a seed, a fruit, and a food.

Note: By the time of C3/DS, chemicals given by objects were largely genetically determined by stimuli. In DS, several edible types include medicinal side-effects.

  • 3-Seeds - typically gives a larger reduction in hunger for starch and a smaller reduction in hunger for fat, and gives a larger amount of starch and a smaller amount of fat. Most creatures will instinctively eat this when hungry for starch.
  • 6-Leaves - in the Creatures Development Standards, proposed to give the same stimulus as eating seeds. Creatures rarely eat this, as it does not have a smell. Earlier leaves, such as the Rainbowbamboo, gave medicinal chemicals.
  • 8-Fruit - typically gives a larger reduction in hunger for protein and a smaller reduction in hunger for starch, and gives a larger amount of protein and a smaller amount of starch. Most creatures will instinctively eat this when hungry for protein.
  • 9-Manky - in the Creatures Development Standards, proposed to give alcohol. Most creatures rarely eat this, if ever, and the only official example is the Yule Booze.
  • 10-Detritus - typically gives pain and glycotoxin, making it potentially deadly. However, some creatures such as Toxic Norns tolerate it and will seek it out.
  • 11-Food - typically gives a larger reduction in hunger for fat and a smaller reduction in hunger for protein, and gives a larger amount of fat and a smaller amount of protein. Most creatures will instinctively eat this when hungry for fat.
  • 13-Bugs - in the Creatures Development Standards, proposed to give the stimuli "eaten animal" - a larger reduction in hunger for protein and a smaller reduction in hunger for fat, and gives a larger amount of protein and a smaller amount of fat. There are many carnivorous creatures, but even those with a typical diet may occasionally eat this when hungry for fat or protein.
  • 14-Pests - in the Creatures Development Standards, proposed to give the the same stimulus as bugs. As pests tend to be dangerous, they may also give other chemicals such as geddonase. There are some creatures that will instinctively eat this, such as Honey Badger Norns.
  • 15-Critters - in the Creatures Development Standards, recommended to use the same stimulus as bugs and pests. There are many carnivorous creatures that will eat this, such as the Bondi Norns, but even those with a typical diet may occasionally eat this when hungry for fat or protein.
  • 18-Agent Eggs - typically uses the same stimulus as other animals. Creatures rarely eat this, as it does not have a smell.
  • 25-Potions - can have any variety of effects, usually giving medicine, drive reducers and/or water. Most creatures will have to be prompted in order to eat this, as they are usually created by the player to give to sick creatures.
